So we were working on the puzzle from hell when the doorbell rang, I (stine) was thankful for an excuse to stop working it. Before I had the door open all the way some old man was rambeling on about how he needed a ride to the SeaBus ASAP. This was before he had failed to introduce himself and the reason for being at our door at 7:00 at night... He then mentions how his daughter just won the Gold medal in the Boarder Cross, me being the critical thinker that I am, thought, "ya and I'm trying to sell girl scout cookies..." Meanwhile Abby the cat walks through the door and I immediatly feel uncomfortable and scared for my safety. Mystery Man proceeds through the door as if we are long time friends and keeps asking for a ride to the SeaBus so he can get to the award ceremony. By this time everyone has come into the entry way and realized that this guy is actually legit and is the father of an Olympic Gold Medalist, COOOOL!! Carol, half naked in her leopard print pajamas and skimpy tank-top, insists on taking him to the SeaBus. Klev and Carol take this guy to the bus but return ten minutes later with him, apparetly the award ceremony was cancelled. Throughout a nice long dinner with the guy we learn all about his daughter, her 8 knee surgeries, the new wallmart in Squamish, and all of the pains in building an Women's Olympic downhill course. Of course we get a picture with him and he too whips out his camera (which happens to be a 1976 Leia FILM camera) to capture the rather odd and unexpected moment. Hey maybe Stephen Colbert will knock on our door next...

Waaaaay cool. Both -cross events were a blast on TV. Felt bad for the US gal who celebrated too soon in '06.
ReplyDeleteI keep looking for you all, but no luck so far.
Sounds like you're having a blast.
PJ's at 7 though, Carol?
Carol likes to come to the door half naked in her skimpy tops. Mom, cover up!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome story. When Steven comes to your door, let's hope he has a slightly more up-to-date camera!
