Day One: Countdown to Gold

We arrived in North Vancouver at about 11 -- the Lucas Pilot arrived first, a classic case of the tortoise and the hare. We had been behind the crowd for the entire trip, but thanks to some fancy footwork at the border (i.e. choosing Blaine over Sumas) Mr. Lucas pulled from Bronze to Gold. Our hosts, Hannu and Bernie, were happy to see us. Cute house. We usurped the owners, had a snack, unpacked, and the 9 of us all walked, school field-trip style the 30 minutes to where we'll catch our bus in the morning. Reconnoitered, if you will. The Lonsdale Quay is a happenin' spot, with shops, a market, ethnic restaurants, and lots of helpful VOC transportation volunteers with their bright blue jackets. We were intrigued by a group of Russian sailors who were hosting touristas on their sailing frigate-turned-restaurant/disco. We also saw a one legged sea gull. Very rare, indeed.

Tonight we're having dinner at their great table that seats 12; and then we'll retire to the bedroom/TV room, cuddle up and watch some Canuck TV. Turns out they are as crazy about medal count as the US media. Who'dda guessed?!
